South Shields bomb: Homes evacuated after 'bomb making equipment' discovered in house in quiet stree
HOMES have been evacuated over reports bomb making equipment has been found in a house.
Families were forced to abandon their homes after cops discovered 'suspicious items' inside a property in South Shields at 4am.

A bomb squad is at the scene in Lake Avenue, South Shields.
One local said they had heard that bomb making equipment had been found.
Couple Thomas and Ruby Colman were among those evacuated from their homes.
Ruby, 68, said: “The police got us out of bed and said there was a bomb scare and we had to evacuate as soon as possible.
“They said it was urgent.”

Thomas, 72, added: “I think there’s a lad in one of the flats above the shops and they are trying to negotiate with him.
"It was about 4am they got here and we got knocked up at about 6.45am.
“They just said; ‘Get out straight away’ . We just had to grab everything and go to our daughter’s house.
“It’s a right carry on. It is a worry, especially when you get told it’s urgent.”
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At this stage we do not know exactly what the equipment is."
